The ecologically pure fuel to be produced in Crimea
The Crimea peninsula connected with the continent through a narrow bridge is especially prone to suffer from the fuel and energy shortage. Ecologic considerations prevented until recent time the production of motor fuel in Crimea. The gas prices exceed those in the other part of the Ukraine by 5-10 per cent. The Crimean ministers are up to get rid of the energy dependency and to organize the local fuel production.
The Ukraine dreams to become «biological Kuwait». In 2000 the law «On the alternative liquid fuel» has been issued. Pilot plant are already functioning in Kharkov, Poltava and Lvov, They turn out 603 thou t of raps but are able to process only 120 thou t with the rest being imported.
The lion share of raps is grown in the Crimea (30 000 ha previous year, 43 000 ha this year), but the major part of it is also exported. The target is set to tank with the biofuel not alien but own engines.
The processing of raps seeds will be organized on the base of the former butter factory now standing idle. The creation of the plant will cost some $5-6 mln.
