Nizhniy Novgorod will become the Russia's first city-million, switched to the European system of waste gathering and processing. The regional authorities have started with Igumnovsky landfill.

Now Igumnovo's landfill (by area of 36 hectares) has more than 3 million cubes of biogas which is frequently the main reason of self-ignitions. A gas-generating plant that processes gas into electric power will be put into operation here in May-June. German firm Remondis will deliver such equipment.

According to an agreement, the firm Remondis by own means (the prospective volume will make euro 15 million) will purchase 10 thousand containers of the European class and 50 modern garbage trucks. Three waste-reloading stations will be also constructed in the city, the one of which will be put into operation already early July.
