(Ukrainian News, Viktoria Miroshnychenko, 05/16/2008) Ukrspyrt, the state concern of alcoholic beverage industry, has intention to launch production of biogas at 21 distilleries by 2010.

This follows from Ukrspyrt's executive summary, the text of which has become available to Ukrainian News.

In particular, for 2008 the concern has plans to introduce biogas production at extra-budget expenses at 10 enterprises, total capacity in equivalent of natural gas is expected at 36 million cubic meters a year.

For 2009 they plan begin producing biogas at 11 enterprises with the same overall expected capacity.

Ukrspyrt stressed, introducing production of biogas in 2009 will substitute 10.6% of natural gas consumption.

Apart from this, in 2010 they will commence biogas production at 11 distilleries with capacity in equivalent of natural gas at 19.1 million cubic meters a year, so in 2010 the commissioned capacities will substitute 18.5% of total consumption.

The concern predicts that after production of biogas introduced at 32 enterprises, overall annual production volume will make 91.1 million cubic metres and will substitute 23.4% of total consumption of natural gas.

Moreover, the program of developing the spirit sector for 2007-2011 foresees production of bioethanol at 12 distilleries, capacities of which will reach 218,000 tons of bioethanol a year.

Currently bioethanol is produced at four enterprises in the amount of 36,00 tons a year.

In 2008 capacities of 23,000 tons will be introduced and 45,000 tons in 2009.

As Ukrainian News reported, late in 2007 the Agricultural Policy Ministry of Ukraine initiated licensing 11 distilleries for producing bioethanol.

Before, Ukrspyrt decided to reform the Kyiv association of spirit and alcohol industry, also known as Kyivspyrt, into a Bioethanol government enterprise, which would control the concern's distilleries in all regions of Ukraine that will switch for the production of bioethanol.
