PANJAKENT, July 14, 2008, 2008, Asia-Plus /Azim Mamadjanov/ — Production of biogas has started in the northern district of Panjakent as part of the «Community Agriculture and Watershed Management, Zarafshan Valley» Project. Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the head of the Common Interest Group, Biogaz, Ehsonali Ashouraliyev, said that a micro project of the Credibility Investment on production of biogas from organic waste (manure) had been launched in the village of Chinor. According to him, it is an innovative activity, because nobody has done that in the Zarafshon Valley so far. «One container filling allows getting some 100 kilograms of biogas, which can be successfully used both for cooking and heating house during winter months,» Ashouraliyev said, noting that the past difficult winter has shown the necessity of seeking alternate energy resources.

«The Group Biogaz is ready to share its experience and train interested persons in the Zarafshon Valley and other districts of the Sughd district in this activity,» said Ashouraliyev. «Members of our Group are grateful to the Community-based Agriculture and Zarafahsan Watershed Management Project.» The Community-based Agriculture and Zarafahsan Watershed Management Project is implemented by Welthungerhilfe/German Agro Action (GAA) under financial support of the World Bank and the Government of Tajikistan.
